About Phrase Strings

Here you can find more information about our tool Phrase Strings, how it works, how to get access and an overview of who does what.

Phrase Strings

Phrase Strings is a string management system and translation tool in one. It’s owned and paid for by the Localisation Team, although multiple teams use it on a daily basis to carry out their tasks. The majority of the content that can be seen in our external facing products, such as the Consumer and Rider apps and Partner Hub, will pass through Phrase before it’s added to the codebase. Phrase Strings is our source of truth for product content.

How to get access

Firstly, please note that we only have a limited number of licences available, so please only request access if you definitely will use it (see roles and responsibilities below). To get access, please request it in the Slack channel #localisation-team. Remember to specify which project(s) and/or space within Phrase you need access to. Keep in mind that the name of the repository you’re working in may not correspond directly to the project name in Phrase. Someone from the Localisation Team will grant you access and let you know.

Please make sure to make yourself familiar with the localisation process and ways of working before you start using Phrase.

Who does what in Phrase Strings

Anyone who regularly creates keys, updates strings, moves and syncs keys or translates should have access to Phrase Strings. However, since the software is crucial to our localisation processes, including engineering, not everyone with access should be doing the same thing. The roles and responsibilities are summarised in the below table. If your discipline is not listed, but you believe you should have access, please flag this in #localisation-team.
